Postcards from Australasia #24 Getting home

The final chapter in our trip of a lifetime, one that had proven a little more adventurous than anticipated, was going to be getting home.

We tried our travel agent but as suspected what few flights remained were sold out and they were blunt, no one has any idea when and indeed which airlines will resume flying so contact the embassy, which we duly did.

The day after we registered they announced repatriation flights, paid for by the customers but with the organisation funded centrally.   We had seats.   We were in shock.

There were two flights scheduled to depart from Christchurch.   We were allocated seats on the first flight.  I won't go into the details, it was tough, poorly organised and a bit of a shambles, however we did go from Christchurch to Hong Kong and on to Heathrow from where it was everyone for themselves, but avoid public transport.

Anyway we got home, got in and started working on jet lag, the house, the garden etc.

It's Spring in Scotland we took advantage of one particularly pleasant morning to take our daily exercise with a walk to the Kelpies, eerily quiet given the ongoing lockdown:

Not sure when we'll be able to travel or indeed explore more locally again but i'll update more when we do...
